Dinara Withdraws From Doha

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:02 pm

In the second match of the day at the Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2009 on Wednesday, Jelena Jankovic took on Dinara and recorded the win when the Russian retired with a low back injury at 1-1 in the first set.

Dinara then withdrew from the tournament, thus surrendering the year-end top ranking - to Serena Williams. Vera Zvonareva replaced Dinara in the White Group.

“I’ve had this pain in my back for about three months now. I was advised to take a break after the US Open but at Tokyo and Beijing, it didn’t bother me that much,” Dinara said. “Then my body just gave up. I did everything possible to play here. I just couldn’t handle the pain anymore.”

Dinara said she will not be able to play for at least six weeks and could miss the Australian Open.

  3. sweetie,
First don’t worry rest there is always tomorrow, enjoy the holidays,
i’ve been a tennis fan for years and have followed Marats matches
for some time [I'm in st peterburg now], i’ve seen these problems before,
    you’ll be fine.
We know your really number one, and I’m sorry even the russain press
at times have given you a hard time, but it will be so much easier for
you on your return, caming back at number 2, there will be so much less pressure on you and you’ll again do great things….
but may i suggest that you look at your service action abit, look at marats classic service, your a big girl you could have the power he seems to have,
i’m only suggesting, just think about it…all the best

can i also suggest that we be given easier passwords, mines a nightmare!!!

  4. Hi Dinara

So sorry to hear about your back, I hope you recover quickly, have plenty of rest and look after yourself, your health is most important.

I hope you are well enough for the Australian Open but please put your health first, there will be plenty of other tournaments to play when you are fully recovered. In the meantime have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you
and your family and your coach and family.

    Best Wishes
    Diane Hickman and Family
